Drivers show different characteristics in traffic oscillations. These differences reflect the driver’s driving style, which is an important part of uncertainty. This paper deeply explores asymmetric behaviour and its influence on flow characteristics. The aim to improve understanding safe driving. Continuous vehicle trajectories under various conditions expressway merging area are obtained by aerial photography. Image processing technology used extract basic parameters operating characteristic data. Based measured data, response mode subdivided into multiple sub-modes. On basis this study, types distribution hysteresis impact capacity further revealed. results that coefficient will increase for 58.72 % drivers during process experiencing oscillation disturbance rebalance. caused following generally positive. reduces bottleneck outflow rate about 7 average. study has practical significance analysing formation mechanism congestion adopting effective protective measures.
